Savings on heating bills
Annual savings of £110 per year for lofts that have little or no thermal protection and prevent nearly 1 tonne of of carbon dioxide per year.
Similarly, cavity wall heat loss is estimated to lose up to 35%. Savings therefore can be considerable when considering the total household heating bill could be saved by up to 50% when combined loft and cavity wall insulation has been applied.
Loft insulation grant - standards required
250mm - 270mm of thermal loft insulation will be applied (or as a top) over and in between loft joists. COld water tanks and pipes should also be thermal insulated with a thermal blanket or foam pipe insulation to protect against severe drop in temperatures. The loft hatch should also be protected against loss of heat and where necessary, additional insulation to be applied.
Cavity wall insulation grant
The Government regards grants for cavity wall insulation as one of the most effective energy savings measures that most people can carry out on their homes and apart from saving money it's a major contributor to reducing emissions of carbon dioxide, the main greenhouse gas.
With an un insulated cavity heat can easily escape meaning it requires more fuel to maintain a comfortable temperature
External walls account for 35% of heat loss from the average house, and studies suggest that every square meter of Cavity Wall Insulation will save more than a tonne of Carbon Dioxide over the average life of the building. For a semi detached house with an external wall area of 80m2, this equates to savings of 80 tonnes or more.
